Season 9 dates
Season 9 started on 10 July 2026 at 09:00 UTC (official patch). The mid-season update, Season 9.5, lands on 7 August 2026. The season's end is expected in early September 2026 — NetEase has not confirmed the exact date yet; recent seasons have run roughly eight weeks in two halves. We update this page the moment dates are official.
What happens to your rank at a new season
Since Season 5 (November 2025), Marvel Rivals no longer applies the old flat division drop. Instead, every full season starts with 10 placement matches: the system gives you a predicted rank and your first ten competitive games calibrate it against how you actually play. Your hidden matchmaking rating carries over untouched — which is why early-season lobbies feel much sweatier than the badge next to your name.
The predicted starting point lands roughly one to two tiers below your previous finish — NetEase tunes the exact setback each season rather than publishing one permanent number. Players who finished in the highest tiers (Celestial and above) are seeded into placements around Grandmaster. Two things do NOT happen: you never get wiped to Bronze, and mid-season updates like 9.5 do not reset ranks — placements run once per full season.
Before the tick: what to do at season's end
End-of-season rewards lock to the highest rank you reached during the season, not where you finish. So the weeks before a season closes are the highest-value ranked games you can play: one more tier banked is a permanent reward. If you're short on time, that final push is also the single most popular moment for a rank boost — the reward threshold is a hard deadline.
After the tick: the climb back
Because placements re-seed you below your peak while your hidden rating stays put, the early-season grind is a re-climb through your own skill bracket — most returning players need dozens of games to get back to their previous badge. Use the calculator above for your exact range, check where your current rank places you, and if you'd rather skip the re-climb entirely, the boost option shows a real price and ETA for the same journey.
Season history
Season 9 ("The Mystery of Thebes") follows Season 8 ("Sins of Alchemax", June 2026). Marvel Rivals seasons run in two halves — a full season launch and a mid-season update (the ".5") roughly four weeks in that brings balance changes and new content but no rank reset. We log each season's dates here as they close, so this page doubles as the ladder's historical record.

Frequently asked questions
NetEase has not confirmed the end date yet — based on recent season lengths it is expected in early September 2026. The confirmed mid-season update (Season 9.5) lands 7 August 2026. This page updates the moment the date is official.
Yes, via placements: every full season starts with 10 placement matches that seed you roughly one to two tiers below your previous finish. Your hidden matchmaking rating carries over, and mid-season updates (like 9.5) do not reset anything.
No. Placement matches run once per full season. Mid-season updates bring balance patches and content, but your rank and points stay exactly where they are.
It depends on your win rate and how far the placement seeding set you back — typically dozens of games. The calculator on this page gives a range for your exact from→to, next to the boosted alternative's real price and ETA.
Your highest rank reached during the season. That is why the pre-reset weeks matter most: every tier you bank before the tick is a locked-in reward, even if you slip afterwards.
